The La Gamba Tropical Field Station is a tropical research station located in the heart of Costa Rica's primary lowland rainforest. It is a base for scientific research, conservation, and community work. The station offers accommodation, facilities, and support for students, researchers and indigenous communities.
The COBIGA corridor in Costa Rica serves as a vital link between two essential national parks that harbor numerous unique and endangered species. As a key component of the forest initiative, R-evolution is mapping 100 square kilometers of rainforest. The focus is on 500 hectares, representing 125 million cubes within this biodiversity corridor.
A partnership to unleash the combined power of science and technology
One key area of research at La Gamba is the exploration of the forest's response to environmental changes, such as climate change and human-induced disturbances. Scientists monitor the impacts of deforestation, fragmentation, and climate variability on the forest's biodiversity, composition, and resilience. These studies provide valuable insights for conservation efforts, and inform strategies for preserving the integrity of this precious rainforest ecosystem.
In collaboration with La Gamba, R-evolution is taking a science-based, peer-reviewed approach to quantifying the biodiversity of the forest in line with the Green Cubes Nature Methodology.
